THE DAY I GOT TO MOUNT TOSSAL
…just another day for me then…
Another Sunday and itchy feet. I wanted to get out again and after a wise couple of suggestions from readers the week before I thought I’d ask the question again and the little known San Fernando Castle in Alicante was a tempting idea from one. With a glance at Google Maps and the motorbike (and me) loaded up with laptop, cameras, writing stuff and a cold drink I headed off to find the shy ‘brother’ of Castillo Santa Barbera.

a guilty tail
So I’m on the phone to an important customer when my black Labrador, Woopy, piles into the office chasing her tail which is all fine and dandy if, 1. You are aware of the furniture and people around you and, 2. If you haven’t chased it (and not caught it) at least 15,000 times before – like yesterday. As I walked the streets of Lorca yesterday morning the eerie quiet, which had descended on the town since the second of the two devastating earthquakes that killed at least two pregnant women and up to eight others on Thursday evening, remained. People stood around on the streets either stunned or with nothing else to do. Their home, business or job gone there was nothing left for these poor people to do other than wait. What they were waiting for nobody seemed to be sure, but the hope that the authorities would somehow organise the essentials that we all take for granted normally, such as water and power and food.
